Microsuction

Microsuction of the ear is a safe and effective procedure used to remove earwax and other debris from the ear canal. This technique uses a gentle suction device with a microscope to provide clear visibility, ensuring precise removal with minimal discomfort.

At Worcester City Primary Care Network, microsuction is performed by trained healthcare professionals in a clean and controlled environment. The procedure typically takes 10 to 15 minutes and does not require any sedation or recovery time.

Microsuction is suitable for patients experiencing symptoms such as hearing loss, earache, itching, or a feeling of fullness in the ear due to wax build-up. It is also preferred for individuals who are unable to have traditional ear syringing, such as those with narrow ear canals, a history of ear drum perforation, or ear infections.

Before the procedure, our staff will assess your ear to confirm that microsuction is appropriate. You should inform the clinician if you have any ear pain, discharge, dizziness, or if you have recently had ear surgery.

After microsuction, you might experience mild temporary discomfort or sensitivity, but normal activities can be resumed immediately. If you have any concerns following the procedure, please contact your local practice.

If you believe you may benefit from microsuction, discuss this option with your practice during your appointment.
